Description
Get ready for a day full of colors, stunning landscapes, and the most authentic essence of Antioquia. This tour to Guatapé and Piedra del Peñol is an experience that combines nature, history, gastronomy, and culture in a single trip, making it one of the must-do plans when you visit Medellín.
The adventure begins with a pick-up at your meeting point, where you'll embark on a scenic tour of eastern Antioquia. As you move along the road, the landscape changes: rolling mountains, peasant houses, and green crops welcome you while the guide shares stories and curiosities about the region.
The first stop of the day is the Replica del Viejo Peñol, a small but charming viewpoint that shows what the old town looked like before it was moved due to the creation of the reservoir. From this point, you'll have a privileged view of the horizon that you'll soon discover more closely.
Then, the trip continues to one of Colombia's most amazing natural icons: the Piedra del Peñol. Over 200 meters high, this giant rock invites travelers to challenge themselves and climb its more than 700 steps. Those who dare to climb enjoy a view they won't forget: an immense network of waterways surrounded by green hills and small islands that look like something out of a painting. If you decide not to go up, don't worry: at the base, you'll also find cafes, craft stalls, and beautiful spots to take photos.
Once you've recharged your batteries, it's time for one of the most relaxing and enjoyable moments of the tour: a boat ride on the reservoir (according to the plan you've booked - optional and chosen by the customer (approx. 20 USD)). Sailing through these calm waters is a unique experience; the guide will tell you stories about the old submerged farms, Pablo Escobar's house museum, and the curiosities of the families that live around the reservoir. It's a perfect time to disconnect, take a deep breath, and let the landscape do its thing.
The last and most vibrant part of the tour takes you to the town of Guatapé, famous worldwide for its colorful facades and unmistakable zócalos that tell stories, traditions, and everyday scenes. You'll have time to stroll through its streets, wander around the main square, visit the church, sit down to enjoy an artisanal coffee, try typical sweets, or simply get lost among the murals, shops, flowers, and photogenic spots on every corner. The reservoir's boardwalk is perfect for relaxing, grabbing an ice cream, or just enjoying the local atmosphere.
Finally, after a day full of nature, culture, and memorable experiences, you'll head back to Medellín, taking with you spectacular photos, new memories, and that feeling of having visited a truly magical place.
