Really great stay at Masaya. Also really good mojito made by Camilo with happy hour prices! Would rate this a great central location to stay in Bogotá:)
What I liked; The staff was unbelievable. Location is amazing. Beds and setup are really amazing with a private pod and a place to put your phone. Really lovely. What I didn't like: The place for whatever reason doesn't have that hostel vibe where you can meet fellow travelers. No quiet and comfortable place to work. The restaurant up front was kinda ok but too loud and too many people pass by. So if you want comfort without socializing this is a really good option.
A nice albeit quiet common area. The coffee in the mornings is a great way to unwind and the staff are always cleaning these areas and the toilets. Good location in a safe (ish) neighborhood with lots of cafes. However, my bunk had a left over plaster in it, the sheets I was given had brown and yellow stains all over them and my partners were black stained. Not to mention the electric outlet fried my charger so I will now have to purchase another one. Overall not a terrible stay but I won't sacrifice a clean place to save a bit of money.
We spent two nights in a standard double room with a private bathroom at Masaya Bogotá. We really liked the hostel itself, but unfortunately, we have to make some significant compromises regarding the room. The Positives: The location is ideal for exploring the historic old town of Bogotá on foot. There are many bars and restaurants nearby, yet the area is pleasantly quiet. The online check-in went absolutely smoothly, and the overall atmosphere in the hostel is extremely positive and welcoming. The value for money is also a big plus. The breakfast was very good; you can choose from four à la carte options (although unfortunately, one of them was already unavailable at 7:00 AM). The service was also helpful: when we initially only had one towel in our room, another one was brought to us immediately. The Negatives: Our room was essentially located in the basement of an old building, which leads to our biggest point of criticism: the extreme humidity and cold. Even the provided space heater in the room could not dry the air. Everything – from the towels and the bed linen to the clothes in our backpacks – was damp and cold, which unfortunately meant we slept very poorly. In addition, the bed linen had many stains. The room is modern and simply furnished, but it lacks practical elements: there are no hooks for jackets, and the small desk is missing a chair or stool. Conclusion: Old buildings are certainly a challenge, but Masaya urgently needs to do something to get the humidity in these rooms under control. Given the good value for money and the great atmosphere, we were not completely dissatisfied, but we would definitely not book this specific room again.
An unforgettable home away from home in Bogotá Staying at Masaya Hostel Bogotá for two months has been an incredible experience and truly felt like a second home. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. The hostel itself is beautifully designed, clean, and full of character. The common areas make it very easy to connect with people from all over the world, whether you’re there to socialize, work remotely, or simply relax. The atmosphere is vibrant but still respectful and comfortable. A very special thank you goes to the amazing staff, especially Paula, Natalia, Luisa, and Hugo. Their kindness, positive energy, and constant willingness to help made my stay truly unforgettable. They don’t just work there,they create a sense of family and make every guest feel seen, safe, and at home. The location is perfect,right in the heart of La Candelaria,close to historical sites, restaurants, nightlife, and public transportation. Despite being in a lively area, the hostel manages to maintain a great balance between energy and rest. After two months at Masaya, I can confidently say this is one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Whether you’re in Bogotá for a few days or a long stay, Masaya is the perfect place to experience the city, meet amazing people, and feel at home.
