DescriptionItinerary Day 1 Your day will start early when your driver picks you up at your hotel in Medellín to take you to the bus terminal to begin your adventure through the spectacular coffee highway on a 4-hour bus road trip to Manizales. Waiting for you at the terminal in Manizales, your knowledgable guide will show you his marvelous city, founded in 1849 and capital of the Caldas department. Since the city is right in the middle of the central mountain range, it has an uneven topography, which gives amazing lookouts and viewpoints throughout the city. First, you will go to the Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of the city where you will see the neoclassical government palace and the neogothic main Cathedral. Your guide will take you to a special place where you will be able to appreciate an amazing view of the Bolívar Condor, which is a statue of a half Simón Bolivar and half Condor located right in the center of the square, it is locally known as El Libertador. Then, walk down Carrera 23, the main street, to take a cable car over the city and the gorgeous Quebrada Olivares. Once you finish there will be a car waiting to take you to Chipre neighborhood to see the striking Monumento a Los Colonizadores, and have the chance to admire the beautiful coffee landscape. Next, go to a trendy zone in Manizales which has a great variety of restaurants and bars. Use your spare time for lunch (at your own expense) and try a typical Colombian dish of the region. Afterwards, hop back in the car to head to Hacienda Venecia, a beautiful coffee farm just outside of Manizales which has conserved its early 20th-century architecture. This will be your stay for the next two nights in this enchanting hacienda. After checking in, you may dive in the pool, or enjoy a breathtaking walk through the coffee plantations or relax in a hammock. With this package, you will stay in the main house in a private room with a private bathroom plus breakfast and dinner are included on both days. Day 2 Start your day off right, with a delicious Colombian breakfast. Afterwards, hop in the car to be taken to Salento, a small enchanting village 2 hours away from Manizales, in the department of Quindío. Here you will have the opportunity to get to know the village on your own and at your own pace since you will have three hours to walk through the lively and colorful streets filled with colonial houses, handicrafts, antique shops, and restaurants. Next, go up to Alto de la Cruz and be astounded by the dazzling green valleys and spectacular coffee country landscape. When you come down, take your time have lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense). Continue with the tour by going to the amazing Cocora Valley which is inside the Parque Nacional de Los Nevados (one of the many National Parks). You will be here for a couple of hours and you have a number of options on how to spend your time here. The first stop option is to stay in the car and let your driver take you so you can appreciate the grasslands, wax palms, the creeks and of course the cloud forest. Another option is to hire a professional guide (at your own expense), go on a hike and learn about the local flora and fauna. Last but not least, you may rent a horse (at your own expense) and go horseback riding throughout the marvelous valley. As soon as these two hours finish drive back to Hacienda Venecia where a delicious dinner will be served before going to bed. Day 3 After a delightful breakfast, you will have a personalized tour of the coffee plantations of Hacienda Venecia. Walk through the luscious coffee plantations, learning about its process, from the harvest to the production process and why it became such an important part of Colombian culture. Learn why the plantations are mostly high in the mountains and how these methods have been passed down from generation to generation. Get an insider look at the process and learn about the modern and traditional techniques of coffee production. Head back to the main house to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a chance to buy some coffee of the Hacienda Venecia. After this sensational tour you may have lunch at the Hacienda (at your own expense) and be taken to the bus terminal to get your bus back to Medellín afterwards. Finally, a driver will be waiting for you in Medellín´s bus terminal and take you to your hotel.
