Description
The adventure begins in the beautiful town of Barichara, where we will take a short drive to the village of Butaregua, a territory rich in history and natural beauty. From there, we will begin a descent through the Suárez River Canyon, entering arid, majestic, and silent landscapes that reveal the beauty of the tropical dry forest, one of the most biodiverse and fragile ecosystems in the country.
During the tour, we will talk about the regional history of Santander, the uses of the land, and the ancestral presence of the Guane people, the indigenous culture that inhabited these lands before the arrival of the conquistadors. After approximately one hour of walking, we will arrive at one of the most sacred and surprising points of the journey: a set of petroglyphs carved into the rock by the ancient Guanes. These figures represent their cosmogony, astral symbols, sacred animals, and forms of communication that still inspire mystery and admiration today. After this encounter with the past, we will continue our descent until we reach the natural viewpoint of 'Las Juntas,' the exact point where the Suárez and Chicamocha rivers meet, creating an impressive visual spectacle. This place, surrounded by rocky walls and unique natural formations, offers a deep view of the canyon that invites contemplation and connection with the environment. This tour is ideal for those who seek to walk along authentic trails, discover the indigenous legacy of the region, and be surprised by one of the most breathtaking landscapes in northeastern Colombia. An experience between nature, history, and living spirituality.
