Description

The hill of Monserrate is the best known of the eastern hills of Bogota. Along with Guadalupe, it is one of the tutelary hills of the city. Monserrate has an altitude of 3152 m and is located on the eastern mountain range. The hills of Bogotá, of sedimentary origin, are at least 16 million years old, with rocks of Cretaceous age belonging to the Guadalupe Group, as far as the geological aspect is concerned. Until the middle of the 17th century it was known as Cerro de Las Nieves. The basilica of the Señor de Monserrate has been a place of religious pilgrimage since colonial times. admission time depends on the number of people in line, it can take up to two hours on weekends.
