Description
The Galerazamba volcano and mangroves route visits two communities. The first is Galerazamba, the land of Catalina, the first woman to speak Spanish, where the open-air sea salt mines are located. These mines are owned by the Bank of the Republic because, in the past, salt was more valuable than gold and was the unit of measurement for bartering at the time. The water in the salt mines changes color depending on the weather, once a year. This activity is scheduled to last one hour.
Fifteen minutes later, we will arrive at the Totumo mud volcano, which is a diapir. Its mud has medicinal properties, and we will spend an hour and a half doing this activity. Members of the Lomita Arena community provide massage services, mud removal, and camera handling. Tips are voluntary.
Then our transportation will take you to the tip of the spout (fishing village) where we will have lunch and wait for the native tour guide who, in a canoe with a capacity for 4 people, will guide you on a tour through the mangrove roots with 100% pure oxygen and zero noise pollution. You will see birds, fish, raccoons, and crabs. You will attend a traditional fishing show with cast nets, then return to the starting point where transportation will take you back to your hotel. Please note the color of the salt flats: The pink or orange color of the salt flats appears during these times: December to April (strong color) in February and March; August to September (less intense).
✨ The color depends on the weather and the concentration of salt. This is a natural event, so we specify the dates so you can enjoy the experience as it really is. We have also added photos showing the high, low, and medium hues on the platform so you know what colors you will see during the tour.
