Description
Check out Riosucio, Caldas, on a guided tour that connects you with its history, spirituality, and coffee culture. This walking tour takes you through colonial temples, heritage streets, and unique stories that reveal the essence of a town marked by religious duality and reconciliation through Carnival.
We kick things off at Parque San Sebastián, where you'll dive into the story of Riosucio and its unique split between two parishes. We'll check out the San Sebastián Church and the Carlos Gardel memorial plaque, and also explore some heritage houses that still have their traditional architecture. Then, we head to a local coffee shop to enjoy a tasting of single-origin coffee, grown in the Caldas mountains.
The tour keeps going down Calle del Comercio, where you'll learn about the 'imaginary fence' that once divided two communities in conflict. This is where the story of the Riosucio Carnival kicks off, a one-of-a-kind celebration in Colombia that brings together myth, culture, and reconciliation.
We'll check out the Park and the Church of La Candelaria, which are like temples that show off the town's spirituality and religious history. If the Carnival Museum is open, we'll check out its costumes, masks, and archives. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, we stop by the gallery or market square to chat with local vendors and try out some typical products.
We wrap up at La Candelaria Park, wrapping up the experience with a reflection on Riosucio's cultural identity and its symbolic richness. This tour is perfect for travelers looking for authenticity, living history, and a deep connection with the land.
