Description

Spend a day in the Antioquia countryside, just 45 minutes from Medellín. We pick you up at your accommodation in Laureles, El Poblado, or Estadio, by car or van for small groups. We don't use large buses: the group is kept small to make the experience intimate and personal. Station 1: Coffee Upon arrival at the farm, you'll learn all about Colombian coffee: how to drink it, what the most common mistakes are, and how to recognize a good coffee. Then you'll take part in a guided tasting. Then we'll dress you up as a traditional Antioquia farmer, with a hat and a poncho (a white cloth worn over the shoulder), and we'll walk to the plantation to see the coffee plant up close. Stop 2: Plantains You'll learn about one of Colombia's most important foods and try a patacón: fried plantain with hogao, a homemade tomato and onion sauce. Station 3: Mango You'll taste green mango with salt, lime, and pepper, as it's eaten in Colombia, and we'll make a toast with aguardiente, Antioquia's traditional anise liqueur. Station 4: Citrus fruits You'll learn about the tree tomato, a fruit native to the Andes that hardly any visitors have tried, and you'll drink a fresh juice made from it. Plant your own coffee seed You'll plant a coffee seed with a personal wish, something you'll only experience on this sightseeing tour. Then you'll take the most famous photo at the farm: sitting in a giant hand with the mountains of Antioquia in the background. Station 5: Sugarcane You'll learn how to make guarapo, a natural sugar cane juice, which you'll drink with your lunch. Typical lunch You'll finish with a fiambre, the traditional lunch of Antioquia's farmworkers, served on a banana leaf. Its name comes from a popular expression: 'the end of hunger.' Before heading back, you'll receive the embroidered poncho you wore during the sightseeing tour as a gift, so you can take a souvenir of the Colombian countryside back to your country. We'll return to your accommodation at around 3:00 p.m. Why travelers choose this sightseeing tour: Why travelers choose this sightseeing tour: • Coffee and exotic fruits in a single experience • You plant your own coffee seed • Small groups in a car or van, no large buses • Typical lunch and gift included • Spanish-speaking tour guide
