Description
Immerse yourself in the Afro-Caribbean heritage that colonial Cartagena tried to silence. On this 1.5-hour small group evening walk, you will meet the healers, African sages, and voices censored by the Holy Office of the Inquisition — and you will rediscover the ancestral knowledge they carried.
Your tour guide is a professional historian who works at the Ministry of Culture of Cartagena, ensuring a rigorous, respectful, and faithful experience of the city's Afro-Caribbean heritage. Departing from Plaza de la Proclamación at 7:00 pm or 8:30 pm, he will lead a maximum of 10 travelers through the colonial streets where the women and men of African descent accused by the Inquisition lived, healed, and resisted.
This is not just another sightseeing tour of the Walled City: it is a journey through the cultural underground of colonial Cartagena, where African traditions, natural medicine, and ancestral knowledge faced the silence imposed by the Spanish religious authority.
As night falls, live artistic performances bring these stories to life—not as a class, but as an experience. You will connect with myths, legends, and characters that official books skip, and you will understand why their knowledge remains a living part of the Colombian Caribbean today.
Offered in English and Spanish, with refreshments included, this sightseeing tour is for curious travelers looking for more than just the postcard-perfect Cartagena.
