Go inside two real emerald mines with local Chivor miners on this private 2-day adventure through Boyacá's legendary emerald country, connected by a horseback ride through the Andes and an overnight at a traditional hacienda. Meet your Spanish-speaking local guide at Chivor's Main Park at 8:00 AM and start with a traditional Colombian breakfast. Get an introduction to Chivor's mining history, culture and techniques before heading to your first emerald mine. Step 300 to 500 meters inside the tunnel with active miners and try tools like a geologist's hammer or drill — the same techniques used to search for Colombia's most valuable gemstone. Enjoy a traditional fiambre lunch, then ride horseback through Andean landscapes to a small artisanal mine. Meet miners who work with methods passed down through generations for an authentic look at the patience behind the trade. Continue to Hacienda El Recuerdo for a traditional meal and a peaceful night in a private room with private bathroom.
