Description
Rarely visited by the average traveller, Nevado del Ruiz is one of the most exotic places in Colombia. This five-day ride from Medellín starts in warm valleys and ends next to the snow, making it one of the most biodiverse tours we run.
Off the bike: thermal baths at the foot of the volcano, an optional Los Nevados hike, the colonial town of Salamina and La Samaria, home of the tallest wax palms in the world.
Itinerary
Day 1: Medellín to Jardín (5 hrs riding)
Twisty mountain roads out of Medellín, a Colombian barbecue lunch, the Santa Bárbara, La Pintada and Caldas region, and a night at Paraíso Verde Lodge.
Day 2: Jardín to Nevado del Ruiz (5 hrs riding)
Hours of epic enduro riding up to 4,000m, Valle de las Tumbas and glacial scenery, with a night in a hot-spring cabin.
Day 3: Nevado del Ruiz (5 hrs riding)
A morning swim in the thermal baths, riding the Nevado del Ruiz road and páramo, and an optional hike.
Day 4: Nevado del Ruiz to Salamina (5 hrs riding)
Breakfast over the valley, mountain backroads into coffee country and a night in a restored 1860 hotel in Salamina.
Day 5: Salamina to Medellín (5 hrs riding)
The La Samaria wax palms, lunch in La Pintada and the view over Medellín from Las Palmas.
Best for: Intermediate riders.

Important Information
- Meet at our Medellín office (Cl. 8 #43A-89, Office 201, Masaya Hostel, El Poblado). Day 1 starts at 9am with a safety briefing and paperwork. Day 5 finishes back in Medellín. The Honda XR190 motorcycle, gasoline, helmet and riding gloves are included. Helmet intercoms can be added for $10 per day. Expect riding up to 4,000m: bring warm layers. Riders must be 18 or over. Maximum group size is 12. Optional damage cover (DLR) is available for $11 or $22 per day, arranged at the office; it is not required
