A statue of Simón Bolívar in the center of the square stands, in which there is an inscription that says: «Si Caracas me dió la vida, Cartagena me dió la gloria» (If Caracas gave me my life, Cartagena gave me my glory). This square is a site full of historical and cultural symbolism as it was the place where the great military acts were realized in the colonial times. The square has gardens and paved areas, with a great variety of trees, benches and water fountains; located very close to the Gold Museum, the Inquisition Palace, the Bartolomé Calvo Library, the Government and the Cathedral.
