Currency

The official currency of the Republic of Colombia is the Colombian Peso. The commercial symbol is $ or COP.

The exchange rate for this currency varies daily and its value is determined by the Bank of the Republic according to current exchange rate policies. To consult the exchange rates against the Colombian peso, please click here and use the Local Currency function.

We recommend changing money from other denominations to Colombian pesos in Money Exchange Offices that are located after the customs area at airports that operate international flights. Do not change large amounts of money unless it will not be practical to withdraw money regularly throughout your visit. You can also do so in the Hotel where you stay or Money Exchange Offices are also located in some of the major malls. Making a withdrawal at an ATM that accepts international credit or debit cards (preferably in a shopping mall or a banking agency) is also a good option.

The following are the denominations currently in use:

Coins: 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000.

Notes: 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000.
