The inquisition was instituted in Cartagena de Indias in September, 1610, to try offenses against the Christian faith, never acknowledging innocents. The Punishment Tribunal of the Holy Office adopted this palace as its headquarters, one of the most elegant and distinguished buildings of the Colonial era of Cartagena. The bar facade on the bottom and balconies on the upper floor, the main entrance in baroque style with moldings. Nowadays it is a museum that can be visited and appreciate what were prisons and torture chambers.
