Description
Begin your tour with a pickup from your hotel in Medellin and head to a coffee farm in a comfortable private car. Upon arrival, be welcomed by a charming married couple of farmers with a delicious cup of coffee.
Enjoy a cup of coffee as your expert guide gives you an informative introduction to the world of coffee. Then, begin your walk around the coffee farm. Pick the beans yourself, with the farmer guiding you through the process and offering tips on how to select them.
Discuss how both women and men are involved in this task, covering topics such as wages, lifestyle, and everything related to the lives of coffee pickers. At the end of this activity, weigh your load to see who did the best job.
After picking the coffee beans, move on to the next process: depulping the coffee beans. At this stage, the skin is removed, leaving the slimy beans apart. After being separated, the beans undergo a fermentation process for over 24 hours, during which they lose the mucilage before moving on to the next stage.
Next, dry the coffee beans. This process is extremely important to ensure good quality. To do this, there is usually a kind of greenhouse called Marquesina that keeps and increases the heat inside, drying the beans faster. This process depends highly on the weather, it could be 1 day or even 6, it's 100% climate dependent.
Then, thresh the dried beans using a small machine. Help pour the beans inside the machine and see how it works. Once the shell is removed from the coffee beans, they need to be roasted.
At this point, learn about the coffee bean roasting process while enjoying the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Find out if the roasting process has an impact on the caffeine amount. After roasting the coffee, buy it fresh and delicious.
